Newspapers at Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa
An unfamiliar sight of people reading newspapers in public. I’m sure people do read them, but I never see anyone in a cafe or restaurant with a paper. In Nekemte it’s even rarer. In fact, when I sit outside a cafe with a book or newspaper I’m often joined by a stranger who pulls up a chairs and demands to know who I am, what my country is and where I work, etc. It is of course just friendly banter but, as a grumpy Englishman, I really enjoy at quiet drink and a read of the paper when I’m out and about.
Arat Kilo in Addis Ababa, however, seems to be the place for newspaper indulgence. I’ll join them next time.
